Subject: Wolves 5, Kings 1 Date: After several seasons of knocking on the door, the Wolves have won their first Playoff Championship in the Valencia league. In Sunday night action, the Wolves easily dethroned the Kings, 5 - 1, to take home the Championship Trophy. It actually was more of an abdication for the Kings. The more experienced (cough, that means older) Wolves simply allowed the Kings to implode. The Kings got ten penalties and with the lone exception of Tom Hanson (Tom?????????) no lobo took a retaliation penalty. The Wolves got only two penalties for the evening. Sean Morin led the lupine scorers with a hat-trick and Luke Milton added the other two goals. Assists went to Luke (2), Kyle Sheahen (2) and Sean (1). The Kings could not even make into the zone for most of the game. They were turned away repeatedly by a defensive corps of Kyle, Reed Mokler and the Playoff Sniper. Chuck Adamek faced only 14 shots. The all-league goalie would have had a shutout except for a lucky power-play deflection with 1:19 left in the third period. Coast-to-Coast Melnick anchored the offense for the Wolves. All in all, it was a great night and a fitting end to a wonderful season. The Wolves finished in first place in the regular season. Taking a page from Sherman's march through Georgia, the lobos simply decimated the Playoff opposition. The lupine squad rounded up the Usual Suspects, 8 - 2, in the Opening Game and then committed regicide against the Kings, 7 -4 and 5 - 1. If there is a sad note, it is that Captain Dan was not able to skate a victory lap with the 60-pound Championship Trophy. Due to a bit of a melee at the buzzer, Rink Director Larry Bruyere opted away from an on-ice presentation and gave the Wolves their trophies in the locker room. Those unable to play included stalwart Defensemen Scott Sheahen (back to school) and Gregg Gretzburg (secret mission to New York). Matt Smithlin was still on the DL from breaking his leg while playing golf (a tree fell on him -- not a joke). Jouni Passi was also on the DL for the Final. The team sends a special thanks to Mike Oke for filling in during the season when Chuck was off in London, Dubai and Windhoek.

Subject: Wolves 7, Kings 4 Date: August 12th, 2008; 11:02am Buoyed by the comeback of Coast-to-Coast Melnick, the Valencia Wolves toppled the Kings last night, 7 - 4, to take the first game of the Playoff Final. The Wolves finished as regular season champions at Valencia and a win next Sunday will give them their first Playoff Championship in the Valencia league. Last night's game was close for a while. Reed Mokler scored two first-period goals and Sean Morin added another, but at the end of one it was tied 3 - 3. A late-arriving Kyle Sheahen added some spark as the Wolves pulled away with three unanswered second-period goals -- one by Sean, one by Kyle and one by Lucas Milton. In the third, the Kings tried to bash their way back into the game, but found themselves no match for lupine grit. The Playoff Sniper picked up three penalties (two for roughing) and single penalties went to Sean, Reed and Gretzburg. Kyle added a shorthanded goal while the Sniper was in the box to make it 7 - 3. The Kings got a meaningless goal with less than a minute left in the game. Assists went to Luke (3), Reed (1), Kyle (1), Coast-to-Coast (1), Gretzburg (1) and Tom Hanson (1). Chuck was stellar in net, making 22 saves on 26 shots. In ceremonies before the Game, Chuck got a trophy for Best Goalie and Sean got one for Leading Scorer. Chuck tried to downplay his award, but his teammates told him he was the stuff of legend. "When the legend becomes the fact, print the legend."

Subject: Wolves 8, Usual Suspects 2 Date: On August 4, in the Opening Game of the Playoffs, the Wolves trounced the Usual Suspects, 8 - 2. Scott Sheahen dominated from start to finish. Scotty scored four goals. Luke scored three and Reed scored one. The Wolves out shot the Usual Suspects, 38 to 13. Scott is no longer with the lobos because of college commitments in Connecticut. His four-goal night on August 4 nearly matched his five-goal night on August 3 in the final game of the regular season. He had nine goals in two nights. He also scored one for the Panorama team on August 5, giving him ten goals in three games. In the August 4 game, Sean Morin garofaloed his way to six assists, a personal best and a lupine record at Valencia.

Subject: Bottomfeeders blow out Wolves, 10 - 2 Date: June 15th, 2008; 11:41pm In one of the worst games in a franchise history spanning more than 30 years, the Wolves lost tonight, 10 - 2, to the last-place Kings at Valencia. It would be insievil to blame the substitute goalie -- the retard who gave up 10 goals on 24 shots. This is a subpylonesque save percentage of .583, perhaps an all-time lupine low. It did not help that some key players were missing. Apparently off celebrating the Wolves' 13 - 0 victory last week, Sean Morin forgot to make it to the game. Jouni Passi was showing some girl news clips about his hat-trick last week and he couldn't make the game. Kyle Sheahen was at the (cough) Lakers' game. There was no report on Reed's whereabouts. Bookending the disaster was the Sniper's classic Porsche pulling up lame at the start of the game with an electrical problem. Matt and Coast-to-Coast were kind enough to push-start it after the game. Those who showed up and gave their all were Coast-to-Coast, the Playoff Sniper, Gretzburg, Tom Hanson, Matt Smithlin and Luke Milton. Gretzburg scored both goals for the Wolves.

Subject: VALENCIA WOLVES ROLL, 13 - 0 Date: June 11th, 2008; 1:51pm Not since Hitler invaded Poland has anything been as one-sided as Monday night's smashing Wolves' victory at Valencia. The second-place Wolves beat the third-place Interceptors by the football score of 13 - 0. It was pay back for the 3 - 2 defeat the Wolves had suffered to the same team only three weeks earlier. The win gives the Wolves an 8 - 3 - 1 record for the season, only a single point behind the first-place Black Hawks at 9 - 3. As awe-inspiring as the score might have been, the sources are even more shocking. Luke Milton, not unpredictably, lead the lupine attack with four goals. But the often unheralded Jouni Passi had a great night, scoring three of the Wolves' first five goals. Most remarkable was a hat trick by a long-time lupine defenseman -- the Playoff Sniper. No one -- not even the Sniper himself -- could remember the last time he scored a hat trick. Midway through the second period when the Wolves were up 7 - 0, the Sniper went in on a breakaway and beat the goalie five-hole. In the third, Kyle Sheahen took the puck the length of the ice and passed it in front of the net to the trailing Sniper who went upstairs for his second goal. (Note -- the aging Sniper also fell down after scoring this goal.) Late in the third, Coast-to-Coast Melnick made a perfect pass to the Sniper ten feet from the net. The Sniper backhanded it past the beleaguered goalie to complete the hat trick. One young observer said watching Coast-to-Coast, Gretzburg and the Sniper passing the puck at will on Monday night reminded him of the Wolves from 15 years ago at Burbank. Also scoring for the Wolves on Monday night were Matt Smithlin (1) and Sean Morin (1). Assists went to Luke (3), Matt (3), Sean (3), Coast-to-Coast (2), Gretzburg (2), Kyle (2) and the Sniper (1). The lobos are now one point out of first in the Valencia league. The next game is on Sunday, June 15, at 9 p.m. against the Kings and the battle for first will be on Sunday, June 29, at 7:45 p.m. against the Black Hawks.

Subject: Valencia Wolves Win, 8 - 5 Date: June 4th, 2008; 6:20pm In a strange game on Sunday night, the Valencia Wolves were down 4 - 1 and came back to win, 8 - 5, against a beleaguered Kings' squad. It was strange in part because the Wolves had only five skaters at the start -- Reed, Gretzburg, Coast-to-Coast, Tom Hanson and the Playoff Sniper. The Kings scored their first goal less than a minute into the game -- past Chuck on a rebound which the defense should have cleared. The Wolves continued to tank, but two ringers soon arrived -- Kyle and Scott Sheahen -- both apparently approved by the League. Settling down, the Wolves slowly began to come back. Coast-to-Coast scored, Kyle scored, Scotty scored twice. Then two more late arrivals took the ice -- Sean and Luke. They each scored two goals and the Wolves finished on top, 8 - 5. Assists for the night went to Tom (2), Gretz (2), Reed (1), Kyle (1), Scott (1), Sean (1), Luke (1) and the Sniper (1).

Subject: Wolves Befoul Building Date: April 30th, 2008; 1:33am Ah, when the mighty fall, they do it with such elan. Tonight at Valencia, the first-place Wolves lost 6 - 4 to the Usual Suspects, the league's last-place team. At Valencia on Monday night, the D - 4 Wolves outshot the other guys, 32 -25, but were stoned shot after shot by some ringer goalie. Luke Milton and Sean Morin each scored two goals, but it was not to be a lupine night. Speaking of coast-to-coast, Captain Dan played a strong game at Valencia and had two assists -- including one on a nice point-to-point set-up pass. Assists at Valencia went to Captain Dan (2), Jouni Passi (2) and Sean Morin (1). All in all, the team had a terrible night. At Valencia, the Wolves are 4 - 2 -1 and are in first place on points. The second place team at Valencia has played two fewer games and is 4 - 1. The scene at the Bar Tuesday night featured Gregg Gretzburg's bloodied new face, courtesy of an unintentional high-stick from Sean Fuchs.

Subject: Valencia Wolves on Sunday Night, Tie on Monday Night Date: April 23rd, 2008; 3:00am At Valencia on Sunday night, the D - IV Wolves won an epic battle for first place against the previously undefeated Blackhawks. Regrettably, the Wolves tied the Kings on Monday night but still held on to first place in the Valencia league with a record of 4 - 1 - 1 for the season. On Sunday, the Hawks got off to a 1 - 0 lead in the first with a rebound goal that the Playoff Sniper failed to clear. Luke Milton tied it in the second, but the Hawks came back. It was 2 - 1 Hawks at the end of two. In the third period, Luke, Jouni Passi and Sean Morin each scored to give the Wolves a 4 - 2 lead. But with five minutes to go, the Blackhawks scored on an absurd sharp angle shot to close the gap to 4 - 3. Seventeen seconds later, Reed Mokler's goal made the score 5 - 3 in favor of the Wolves. The Hawks scored again with a minute left to make the final 5 - 4. Mike Oke was stellar in net. Sean had three assists on the night, while single assists went to Luke, Tom Hanson, Gretzburg and the Sniper. The Sniper also received a game misconduct for politely (not a joke) suggesting a young referee should have more experience. At the moment of the Sniper's penalty, Sean was telling the same referee to go * * * himself. Valencia Wolves Tie on Monday Night Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown, for 24 hours after this big win, the Wolves tied the lowly Kings, 7 - 7. The Wolves hung on to first place on points but the Blackhawks have played one less game. Neither Mike Oke nor Ancient Chuck Adamek was available Monday night so the Wolves called Barnum and Bailey and asked them to send the Human Sieve over. We have no idea who this alleged "goalie" might have been, but we do know he gave up five goals on nine shots in the first period. Your lobos were down 5 - 0 before a late-arriving Sean Morin broke the ice, so to speak, with five minutes left in the first. Still, it was 5 - 1 at the end of one period. Sean went to work with a natural hat trick in the second, and the Wolves soon caught up with the Kings. Luke got two third period goals and the game went into overtime. But despite a flurry in OT, it was not to be. The game ended at 7 - 7. We should note the Sieve let in only 2 goals on the final 13 shots, perhaps in response to death threats from senior Wolves. Assists for the night went to Gretzburg (3), the Sniper (2), Sean (2), Smithlin (2), Luke (1) and Tom Hanson (1). Coast-to-Coast Melnick played a strong game and made sure everyone went to the Bar.

Subject: Valencia Wolves Win, 5 - 0 Date: March 31, 2008; 9:26am
In Beer League action at Valencia last night, the Wolves coasted to a 5 - 0 win over the Usual Suspects.
Ringer Mike Oke was in net for the Wolves. Mike easily turned away the 18 opposition shots to ensure his shutout for the evening.
On offense, it was all Lucas Milton. Luke scored at the end of the first period to make it 1 -0. The assist on the first goal went, remarkably, to Goalie Oke.
In the second period, Luke scored twice. Assists went to Sean Morin. The score at the end of two was Wolves 3, Usual Suspects 0.
In the third, Sean tallied the fourth lupine goal -- assisted by Gretzburg and Luke. With ten minutes left, Luke scored his fourth goal of the night with assists to Sean and Gretzburg.
If this sounds uneventful, so was the game. Mike was so strong in net that the outcome was never in doubt.
One third period highlight was when the Playoff Sniper was called for "head contact" under Rule 616. The other team was a bit frustrated at this point and had begun to hack and slash. So the Sniper wasted some guy coming out of the zone with his head down.
Jouni Passi and Tom Hanson each tallied two penalties, giving the Wolves five for the night. The other guys got six.
Greg Couch, Captain Dan and Matt Smithlin all played strong two-way games.
The win gives the Wolves a record of two wins and one loss thus far in the young season. The next game is tonight (Monday) at 10 p.m.

Subject: Woves Win Opener at Valencia Date: March 30, 2008
Scoring six unanswered third period goals, the Wolves broke a 5 - 5 tie against the Kings tonight in the season opener at Valencia and won by a final of 11 - 5.
Sean Morin led the lupine scorers with a hat-trick, while Jouni Passi and Lucas Milton chipped in two goals each.
The Wolves received ten penalties to only four for the Kings. At one point when the Wolves had two men in the box, they scored the rarest of all goals in hockey -- a double-shorthanded goal -- scored by the Playoff Sniper himself.
Other goals went to Gregg Gretzburg, Greg Couch and Reed Mokler, while assists were credited to Coast-to-Coast (3), Gretzburg (3), Couch (2), the Sniper (2), Jouni (1), Sean (1), Luke (1) and Matt (1).
Chuck Adamek faced a mere 16 shots for the evening and made five saves during a perfect third period. The three defensemen for the Wolves accounted for a total of ten points for the night.
The win gives the lupine squad a 1 - 0 record for the season at Valencia and (obviously) a share of first place.
