Subject:  Valencia Wolves Win, 5 - 0
Date:  March 31, 2008; 9:26am

In Beer League action at Valencia last night, the Wolves coasted to a 5 - 0 win over the Usual Suspects.

Ringer Mike Oke was in net for the Wolves.   Mike easily turned away the 18 opposition shots to ensure his shutout for the evening.

On offense, it was all Lucas Milton.  Luke scored at the end of the first period to make it 1 -0.  The assist on the first goal went, remarkably, to Goalie Oke.

In the second period, Luke scored twice.  Assists went to Sean Morin.  The score at the end of two was Wolves 3, Usual Suspects 0.

In the third, Sean tallied the fourth lupine goal -- assisted by Gretzburg and Luke.   With ten minutes left, Luke scored his fourth goal of the night with assists to Sean and Gretzburg.

If this sounds uneventful, so was the game.  Mike was so strong in net that the outcome was never in doubt.

One third period highlight was when the Playoff Sniper was called for "head contact" under Rule 616.  The other team was a bit frustrated at this point and had begun to hack and slash.  So the Sniper wasted some guy coming out of the zone with his head down.

Jouni Passi and Tom Hanson each tallied two penalties, giving the Wolves five for the night.  The other guys got six.

Greg Couch, Captain Dan and Matt Smithlin all played strong two-way games.

The win gives the Wolves a record of two wins and one loss thus far in the young season.  The next game is tonight (Monday) at 10 p.m.

Subject:  Woves Win Opener at Valencia
Date:  March 30, 2008

Scoring six unanswered third period goals, the Wolves broke a 5 - 5 tie against the Kings tonight in the season opener at Valencia and won by a final of 11 - 5.

Sean Morin led the lupine scorers with a hat-trick, while Jouni Passi and Lucas Milton chipped in two goals each.

The Wolves received ten penalties to only four for the Kings.   At one point when the Wolves had two men in the box, they scored the rarest of all goals in hockey -- a double-shorthanded goal -- scored by the Playoff Sniper himself.

Other goals went to Gregg Gretzburg, Greg Couch and Reed Mokler, while assists were credited to Coast-to-Coast (3), Gretzburg (3), Couch (2), the Sniper (2), Jouni (1), Sean (1), Luke (1) and Matt (1).

Chuck Adamek faced a mere 16 shots for the evening and made five saves during a perfect third period.   The three defensemen for the Wolves accounted for a total of ten points for the night.

The win gives the lupine squad a 1 - 0 record for the season at Valencia and (obviously) a share of first place.

Subject:  NO FLUKE FOR LUKE - INTERCEPTORS NUKED
Date:  Jan 9, 2008  1:02AM

In the big battle for first place at Valencia, Lucas Milton scored an epic OT goal and the Wolves beat the Interceptors by a final of 5 - 4.

It was also the Time of the Ancient Adamek, as Chuck not only did not stink up the building but made SIX saves in overtime to preserve the win.  For the game, the venerable keeper had 21 saves on 25 shots.

The game was not easy.  Despite early lupine goals by Luke and by Sean Morin, the Interceptors were able to take a 4 - 2 lead as the second period was about to end.

But with one second left in the second period, a woefully out-of-position Playoff Sniper fed Sean in the slot for a one-timer which made it 4 - 3.

Then, with five minutes to go in this nail-biter, Sean blasted one home to tie the game at 4 - 4.  Assists went to Luck and Gregg Gretzburg.

The OT started with the Interceptors bussing all around Chuck, but the Wolves took control in time for Luck to score the game-winner.

Gretzburg took credit for two assists, while Reed Mokler got one.  The defensive pair of Gretzburg and the Sniper gave up no goals to the opposition.

Matt Smithlin and the Sniper each got bogus penalties.  Captain Dan, Tom Hanson, Jouni Passi and Frank Polak helpt insure the lupine win.

The win would give the Wolves undisputed possession of first place except the Interceptors protested the loss.  Gretzburg has promised to make sure that the league puts the Wolves officially in first place by later today.
