Subject: Wolves Lose, 8 - 7

In D - IV play at Valencia last night, the Wolves came out on the short end of an 8 - 7 cliffhanger.
The Interceptors had jumped out to a 4 - 1 early lead, but the Wolves fought back on goals by Lucas Milton,
Tom Hanson, Sean Morin (2) and Reed Mokier. At the end of two periods, the Wolves were down, 6 - 5.
In the third peiord, Lucas scored two more goals and the Wolves took the lead at 7 - 6.
But it was not to be. With four minutes left in the game, a blistering shot went past Goalie Chuck
Adamek and the score was tied, 7 - 7.
As the clock was ticking down, the Interceptors somehow found net with just 36 seconds left in the game.
A last minute flurry by the Wolves could not even the score and the lupine squad went down to an 8 - 7 defeat.
The Wolves outshot their opponents, 31 - 22.
On defense, Gregg Gretzburg tallied three assists for the Wolves, while the Playoff Sniper, who set up Sean's
second goal, got one assist. Other assists went to Sean (3), Tom (2), Reed (2) and Lucas (1). Founder and Captain
Coast-to-Coast Melnick went coast-to-almost coast and played a strong game on defense.

Subject: Valencia Wolves Win Without Sheahen-----Again
Date: Nov 13, 2007 11:34 AM
In a game reminiscent of the 1893 Stanley Cup, last night the Valencia Wolves won
in sudden death overtime with just 20 seconds left on the clock. The score was 5
to 2 in the third period when the Blackhawks made a vallant charge to tie the score
with less than a minute to go. The game went to 4 on 4 sudden death over time when
Sean Morin took a shot and Gregg Gretzberg popped in the rebound for the win.
Other goals were scored by Jouni Passi, Sean Morin, Matt Smithlin and Luke Milton.
The defense was manned by "Coast to Coast" Melnick, "Give me the
stat" Gretzberg and "Mr. Las Vegas" Hanson.
"I'll be there for sure next week" Sheahen was no where to be seen
for the 10th straight game and despite his promises that "it will never happen
again" he has now joined the ranks of other "reliables" like Timo
Passi and Gary Egloff. Next week his jersey and number may be given to the new
guy Reed Mokier who acquitted himself very well and appears to true Wolve material.
Reed has assured us that he will not abandon the Wolves for any team of Division
1 foreigners no matter what they offer him.
Scott "I didn't do anything" Spindel was also absent as he was sitting
out his one game suspension for facemasking. Apparently his fingers accidentally
got caught in his opponents face mask when he was trying to be helpful and brush
his hair out of his eyes. According to Scott, It was all just a big misunderstanding.
Notably, the Blackhawks out shot the Wolves but Wolves Legend "The Wall"
Adamek was guarding the net like Frank Polak protecting a buffet and Chuck kept
the biscuit out of the basket more often than not. Something has gotten into Chuck
lately as he seems to be playing like he's back in Laurel Plaza. Keep it up

*Blackwolves lose heartbreaker to KGB
wolves 7-6*
Throughout sports history there have been such heated rivalries as The New York
Yankees and Boston Red Sox, The New York Giants and The Dallas Cowboys, The New York Rangers and The New York Islanders. But
there is no rivalry that is more intense then the Melnick league's Blackwolves and KGB wolves.
The Blackwolves were coming off last weeks blowout win against The Bluewolves. Fueled
by determination and grit the Blackwolves would accept nothing but victory. The KGB wolves fueled by shashlyk, Blini,
pirozhki, and Vodka, would rise to the challenge.
The pace of the game was fast and Furious from one end of the ice to the other. After
the first period the score read KGB 1, Blackwolves 0. The second period however was a different story. The Blackwolves put
away four goals and looked as if they would take the momentum into the third period leading 4-2.
You could say the shashlyk, Blini, pirozhki, and the Vodka kicked in for the
KGB wolves. They scored 5 third period goals to secure a 7-6 victory. Once again this was one of the most exciting games between
the Blackwolves and KGB wolves. Sean Marin scored with 58 seconds left in the game bringing the score to 7-6. With the face-off
in the KGB zone Sean "Big Sexy" Fuchs nearly tied the game. Sean Marin won the face-off and got the fluttering puck back to
Glenn "Big Nose" Unger who took a whack at the fluttering puck with a mid air swipe. The puck then went to "Big Sexy"who with
as much traffic in front of the net as the 405 on a Friday at 5:00pm got off a shot that just went slightly wide of the net
as time ran out. The score board read: KGB Wolves 7, Blackwoles 6.
Once again Chuck "Jailhouse Rock" Adamek was rock solid in net. In the past
weeks Chuck has been playing outstanding both in the league out in Valencia and at Panorama. As always Chuck came up with
some beautiful saves last night. Keep it going Chucker!!!!!!!
Even though the Blackwolves came up short, the whole team played like their life depended
on it. Everyone hustled their arses off for the full 60 minutes and never gave up right to the end. Good Job Boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SCORING SUMMARY:
- Sean Marin: 3 Goals
- Dan Melnick: 1 Goal, 1 Assist
- Glenn Unger: 1 Goal
- Sean Fuchs: 1 Goal
- Scott Spindel: 1 Assist
- Daniel Perlman: 1 Assist
SHOTS ON GOAL:
- Blackwolves: 44
- KGB wolves: 24
Wolf Tracks:
- Dan "I F%#king hate Las Vegas" Melnick scored a goal that was absolutely a
masterpiece. The KGBwolves had their top line on the ice but that didn't matter to Mr. Melnick. Dan took the puck from
his own end skating at warp speed 11. Dan went around all 5 KGB wolves with his patented nifty stick handling. When he was
done toying with his opponent, he promptly deposited the puck in the net. All the KGB players were just standing around scratching
their headskis wondering what the hell just happened. After the game at a press conference held at Pineapple hill,
Melnick was asked what inspired him to fly around the whole KGB wolves team and score. Melnick said that he couldn't let Frank
Polak have all the spot light. Melnick went on to say, "Frank Polak plays hockey but, I AM HOCKEY!!!!!!!" Frank
Polak could not be reached for comment (He's probably on line at the Buffet ). This friction between Melnick and Polak
may hold off production on their new movie they are scheduled to star in called, "The Buffet Crashers."
- Rockin' Rex Moore was back in action after missing a couple of weeks due to surgery.
Without missing a beat, Rex picked up where he left off. Always in position, always making the big play on Defense and ALWAYS
making the rest of us look good. Rex is a true Melnick League Legend. Just a reminder Rex is throwing in a FREE set of
Ginsu knives if you buy his T-4000 testicle and Scalp massager. Act Now!!!!!!!!!!
- Gus Crow was back in the line up after missing last weeks game. Gus has been on
a book tour promoting his new book "115 ways to use the word F%#K," with illustrations by his Mom, Terese Crow. Gus thinks
the book will be right up there with "War and Peace." When Gus and Terese were asked what they thought of
Leo Tolstoy, the author of War and Peace, they both said, "That Guy is a F%#Kin' Pussy." Be sure to catch both Gus
and Terese at their booking signing at Borders in Santa Monica this Saturday between 1:00pm and 4:00Pm.
- Sadly, longtime Melnick League standout and all around party Animal Larry"L.D." DiBlasio
is heading back to New York. LD is one of the hardest working, most tenacious and well liked players the Melnick league
has seen in recent years. His Legendary and now Famous Jukebox Boogie with a Pineapple Hill regular will go down as one of
the greatest off ice moments in Melnick League History. LD is going back to New York to set up an adoption foundation
that finds suitable homes for Swedish and Brazilian women between the ages of 19-25. LD will base his operations out of New
York while he will be doing field studies with these women in Sweden and Brazil. LD says that there is a long list of
applicants seeking adoption of these women and who better then himself to personally screen these women to see if they will
be a welcome addition to any family. LD states that the hands on screening process that he conducts for each woman
will take roughly about 1 month. After that time LD will decide where these women will be placed. We wish LD the best of luck.
Rumor has it the Division 1 standout, Robert Sheahen has already submitted 36 applications. Looks like LD had got his work
cut out for him.
**** And Finally the Blackwolves would be nothing without their loyal fans. Lori Adamek,
Terese, Berta and Laura. The Blackwolves thank you for your loyalty and devotion and always look forward to seeing you guys
in the stands!!!!!!!
* Have a great week. See ya out on the Ice and
at the bar*

* Blackwolves Win BIG 15-5*
To say the Blackwolves had a good game wouldn't
be giving the team the credit it is due. The Blackwolves played flawless hockey for sixty minutes behind the magnificient
goaltending of Chuck "Blue Suede Shoes" Adamek. Chuck made outstanding save after outstanding save all night long on the Bluewolves'
sharp shooters.
The Blackwolves played great Defense as Dan
"I F%&king hate Vegas" Melnick, Tommy "Mr. Vegas" Hansen, and Jukka "The Cool Fin"Jamalainen patrolled the blue line and
made it virtually impossible for the Bluewolves to get into their offensive Zone.
If you were a spectator watching this game
you would have thought it was skills night at the NHL all-star game. The Blackwolves passed the puck with precision that would've
brought a smile to Mr. Howe's face. They skated hard up and down the ice on every shift. They bombarded Bluewolves goalie
Tony Torres with so many shots, he could've used an extra pair of arms and legs to stop all the flying pucks.
What it came down to was that The Blackwolves finally
put it all together and played the caliber of hockey that they are capable of playing. When it was all said and done the Blackwolves
walked away or should I say skated away with a 15-5 victory. This win made all those 1 goal losses easier to forget.
*SCORING SUMMARY:
- Sean Marin: 8 Goals, 3 Assists
- Glenn Unger: 5 Goals, 6 Assists
- Larry DiBlasio: 1 Goal, 3 Assists
- Scott Spindel: 1 Goal, 3 Assists
- Dan Melnick: 2 Assists
- Dan Perlman: 2 Assists
- Jukka Jamalainen: 4 Assists
*SHOTS ON GOAL:
- Blackwolves: 61 Shots
- Bluewolves: 34 Shots
*Wolf Tracks:
- Gus Crow didn't play in tonight's game due to the fact he serving his one game suspension
at Pelican Bay Maximum security prison. Gus is scheduled to be released next Tuesday morning just in time for the game later
that night.
- Sean "Big Sexy" Fuchs was absent from tonight's festivities. Sean is in Bali doing
a photo shoot for SPEEDO bathing suits. Sean has been selected as the official Speedo model for 2008. Congratulations
Sean, Speedo sales should go through the roof in the up coming months.
- Tommy Courtney has gone missing. Tommy went on a cruise with his Family and disappeared
when the boat docked in Puerto Vallarta. Rumor has it Tommy has entered the seedy underground world of Mexican Midget Tossing. Authorities acted on a tip and raided the Courtney home in Palmdale. What they found was astonishing. They
found Small living quarters for atleast 250 midgets, 5 practice Tossing pits, trampolines etc.... But strangely all the midgets
were in great shape. When interviewed all the midgets said they loved living at "Midgetland" and that Tommy is a God. He should
be mentioned along with historical Icons as Mother Teresa, Ghandi and Frank Polak.
- Rex Moore will be back in the Blackwolves line up next week. If you stay up late at night
you can see Rex's infomercial on his latest invention. It's the T-4000 supercharged testicle and scalp massager. Rex built
it in his garage of spare parts from a 1968 Volkswagen Bug. He's selling it for just three easy payments of $29.99 and if
you call within the next 10 minutes Rex will personally come to your house and demonstrate the T-4000 supercharged testicle
and scalp massager. 1-800-BIGBALLS....Give him a call!!!!!!!!!!
- Last night something I thought I'd never see happened to Dan Melnick . I didn't see the
whole incident but it disturbs me that it happened to Dan. It was midway through the 3rd period when Dan was skating with
the puck. He crossed the blue line with his eyes set on putting the puck in the net. As Dan closed in on the net he made
a move on the defender. The defender went right, Melnick went left with a clear path to the net. Then all of a sudden out
of the blue, Melnick went down as if he was the victim of a sniper's Bullet. All i can hear was the voice of Howard Cosell
shrieking, "DOWN GOES MELNICK, DOWN GOES MELNICK, DOWN GOES MELNICK." How was this possible? Who would've done such
a thing?? All I have to say is if I find the person responsible for this, they will be in for a world of hurt. If you
or anyone you know has information on "Who viscously brought down Dan" please contact http://www.wolveshockey.net/
- Gregg Ginsburg of the Bluewolves was overheard saying that if his new $500, top of the
line, most expensive pair of Bauer skates that only he can afford weren't so tight and stiff, he would've single handily
taken over the whole game and the score would've been the other way around......Sure!!
*** Let's not forget our loyal fans Lori Adamek, and Sean Marin's Mom Laura who brought
a video camera to capture the magic that is "THE BLACKWOLVES". Maybe with any luck we can put those moments of magic on the
Wolves Hockey website for all to see.

- Last week I was verbally beaten within an inch of my life by Terese Crow and Gus' girlfriend
Berta for not mentioning their loyal fan support during last weeks victory. So to avoid future beatings.......here we go.
Wolves loose a tough one to KGB 6-5 despite
the fan support of Terese Crow and Berta. The wolves from the get go were playing catch up hockey. But in true Wolves fashion
and with the cheering from Terese Crow and Berta we never gave up.
The KGB wolves were quick to score just seconds
into the 1st period. Boris Vernik scored on a beautiful pass from Alex Yudkevich But the wolves didn't give up because
they knew that Terese Crow and Berta were cheering them on. New comer to the wolves Gregg McDonald started the scoring
for the wolves probably because he heard Terese crow and Berta cheering. As the 1st period ended the wolves were trailing
4-2.
As the 2nd period started the wolves knew they had to
play tough defense. Due to the fact that Terese Crow and Berta were cheering, the wolves did just that. Dan "Are you going
to the bar" Melnick, Sean "Big Sexy" Fuchs, Tommy "Mr. Vegas" Hansen & Larry "Mr. Excitement" DiBlasio held the KGB wolves
to only 9 shots in the period. Scoring his 2nd of three goals was Sean "The Cement Mixer" Marin. Sean came right through two
defenders while hearing Terese Crow and Berta cheering for him, took the pass from LD, and put it in the net. But that was
all the scoring the Blackwolves could manage despite putting 15 shots on goal.
The 3rd period began
with the wolves trailing by 3 goals. Everyone knew it was do or die especially Terese Crow and Berta. So the wolves went to
work pressuring the KGB wolves in their own zone causing turnovers and creating scoring opportunities. Once again Gus
Crow was all over the ice giving the KGB wolves a nightmare of a time getting clean passes off. That's because Gus heard his
Mom Terese Crow, and girlfriend Berta cheering for him. The 3rd period seemed to belong to the wolves as Eric "Slim Pickens"
Fullecker, Gregg Mc Donald, Sean Marin, myself and the rest of the wolves kept the puck in the KGB wolves zone for a good
6 minutes. Sean Marin scored his 3rd goal on an assist from Gus Crow and LD all because Terese Crow and Berta were cheering
like crazy. The momentum looked to be swinging in the direction of the wolves. With just 2:30 left in the game Gregg McDonald
scored giving the wolves sometime to work some magic. It was at this time Dan called a time out. He brought the team together
and said "Guys, let's win this for Terese Crow and Berta." There was electricity in the air. We all looked at
each other with tears in our eyes knowing that we just couldn't let Terese Crow and Berta down. The last 2:30 was the most
exciting and intense hockey seen played by the wolves in past seasons. The wolves swarmed the KGB net as Terese Crow and Berta
were cheering but to the credit of the KGB wolves, they held on and defeated the Blackwolves 6-5. Chuck "The wall' Adamek
made some huge saves late in the 1st period and all through the second period to keep the wolves in the game. Chuck didn't
have to work too hard in the 3rd period because the wolves Defense didn't allow the KGB wolves 1 shot on net.
All in all it was a great effort from
the Blackwolves, Terese Crow and Berta. I know we'll take this momentum into next weeks game and win. Good job guys.
Gregg McDonald: 2
Goals
Sean Marin:
3 Goals
Sean Fuchs:
1 Assist
Dan Melnick: 2
Assists
Gus Crow: 2
Assists
LD:
2 Assists
Glenn Unger:
1 Busted Nose ( It's an improvement )
SHOTS ON GOAL:
KGB Wolves: 23
Black Wolves: 51 ( Go Figure!!!
)
**Rex Moore update: Rex is recovering at a rapid pace. Reports have it that Rex's testicles
are no longer the size watermelons. They are now the size of Grapefruits. Hang in there Rexy.
** Did I mention that Terese Crow and Gus' Girlfriend Berta were at the game?
** As always a big wolves howl goes out to Lori Adamek. She holds the record for attending
10,567 consecutive wolves games. No wolves game would be complete without Lori!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
** It was good to see LD's mom at the game. She flew in from NYC just
to see her whittle Warry play. Awe how cute. Hopefully we'll get to see more of Mrs. D.
Have a great week. See ya out on the ice and at the bar.

It's All Or Nothing Next Week Boys.............Playoff Hockey in the Melnick Division where anything is Possible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last night's
action saw the Black Wolves taking on The Blue Wolves in a game that would have made any fan of the UFC proud. The game was
tight and competitive from the get go until some of the Blue Wolves decided to step it up a notch with some physical play.
No problem for
the Black Wolves. As elbows and bodies were being thrown at all ends of the ice, the game was tied 2-2. That was until
Sean Marin arrived. Before Sean even broke a sweat he had tallied 3 goals. But to the Blue Wolves credit they managed to keep
it close. Sean finished the night with 6 goals. Yes 6!!
As I mentioned earlier
the game was physical. The Black Wolves' Gus Crow sent a message to not only the opposing team, but to who ever was watching.
Ya see some guy on the Blue Wolves (Phil) thought it would be a good idea to take liberties with the smallest guy on our team.
Wrong move for Phil. After being cross checked to the ice Mr. Crow proceeded to cut the head off the snake (And he almost
did ). If the ref didn't intervene, The Crow family would've had a Beautiful Mount for their family room.
After that The Blue
Wolves decided to play hockey, the game saw some great play form both sides. But I'm here to talk about the Black Wolves,
So there! Game after game Tommy "Mr. Vegas" Hansen has been a force on Defense. Whether it's playing the body, or make a crucial
poke check Tommy is always there to save the day. Newly acquired Martin Haynes from the WHL Kamloops Blazers is playing
solid defense as well. Martin's defensive play will definitely be a huge factor for the Wolves in the playoffs.
No Wolves line
up would be complete without Rex "The Ice King" Moore. If I was to go on about Rex this e-mail would go on for days. We all
know what Rex can do and has done, but last night Rex scored a goal late in the game that was pure Rex. It seemed liked Rex
Made his way around 15 Blue Wolves, zeroed in on the goalie and without so much as breaking a sweat went forehand to backhand
and nothing but net. I still can't get over it. The guy is amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Danny Romandi and
Dan "Are You Going To The Bar" Melnick are the Wolves Defense. Without these two svelte Bombers patrolling the Blue Line the
Wolves would be in serious trouble. Luke Milton played a spectacular game, ( what else is new ). Hey Luke, I spoke to Sera
and she told me for the playoffs we're going to have wider goals just for you.
Taking time off from
his critically acclaimed Elite Hockey camp was none other than Super DUI attorney, Scott Spindel who notched 2 goals.
Let it be known that the reason Scott scored 2 goals was because I made the lines and didn't make Scott the rotator. Hustling
as always a playing a solid game on the wing is my fellow Hebrew compadre Mel "Don't call me Gibson" Greenberg. Week
in and week out Mel's hustle and smart play is always an inspiration to us all.
And what could we say about
Larry "L. D. " DiBlasio??? Lets face it, the only reason we allowed L.D. to rejoin the team was to get Free
dinners at P.F. Chang's where Lawrence (as he is known there) is the head honcho. Since coming back to the team L.D.
single handed altered the style of play the wolves are displaying out on the ice. L.D. does it all. He plays Defense,
he back checks, forechecks, scores goals, set up goals with his passing etc....... It's good to have him back.
Then there's Chuck "Bend it Like
Beckham" Adamek. Chuck has been absent for the last two weeks finishing out his contract as Goalkeeper for the L.A. Galaxy.
Now Chuck is back on the ice where he belongs to lead to another championship as he did last season at Iceland. Last season
Chuck carried the whole team straight through the playoffs and into the Championship. This year will be NO different. Chuck
has a new movie coming out for Christmas, It's called The Flamboyant Chemist Part 1 , Keep Your hands of my Bunsen Burner.
Let's hear it for Russ Hiltermann
of the Blue Wolves who is back out on the ice. It's good to have you back Russ.
See you all out on the ice and at the Bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Fw: Black Wolves upset Favored White Wolves |
| Date: |
Jul 4, 2007 9:36 AM |
Last night in an epoc battle remindful of the 69 Mets. The underdog Black Wolves defeated the White Wolves
4 to 3.
It didn't look good as the White team held a one nothing lead for the first period and most of the second
until Scott Spindel off a pass from Sean Morin in true Frank Polak tradition, "put the biscuit in the basket" with a
well aimed close in lifter that went over the shoulder of Chuck "The Wall" Adamek to tie it up.
Then in a series of moves reminiscent of the 90s, no, more like the 80s, "Coast to Coast" Melnick showed everyone
how he earned his nickname. He picked up the puck in Los Angeles went behind the net to San Diego and turned east. He deked
everyone in his way, crossed the Rockies beat the last defenseman in New Jersey and went to New York to score.
Once the team was inspired by the goals presented by Melnick and Spindel, Attorneys at law they went on to
score two more. The Third by Sean Marin with an assist by Rex Moore and the inveterate veteran Tom Courtney. The fourth was
popped in by Lucas Milton after a splendid pass from Glenn Unger.
In the third period with only a one goal lead the Black Wolves found themselves in a five on three penalty
kill with 2:35 to go but they held out and managed to hold off the onslaught. Notably, the White team didn't pull their goalie
which might have made a difference.
HELLO FROM AN OLD WOLVE
Hello Dan
The other day one of my co-workers brought to my attention the fact of "Why would you at age 54 want to try and play
hockey again after all that has happened?" I told my co-work not to worry about it but pointed out to her that 6 years
ago on March 8, 2002 doctors told my siblings and wife I would have to re-learn just about everything most people take
for granted everyday. Also unless you have played the game you will never understand what comes with it, for me it trying
to play a sport where others hopefully wouldn't just judge me on how tall ( 5 foot 3" ) I was or that I was a beginner
hockey player who really didn't know how to skate. From the time I first stepped on the ice for a pickup game at Van Nuys
until the last time I was able to play in a league about 6 years ago, I will always appreciate the friendship and
support everyone extended to me so I could play hockey. I really won't go into great detail about what occurred except that
I am working to get back into hockey so I can play again, my recovery and physical therapy is going well and I just began
to try and learn how to skate again. I have been on the ice about 3 times for a workout and each time my progress continues
to get better. Maybe by the end of September 2007 I should be well enough to try and keep up skating with Frank Polack, that's
how really bad I am at this stage. I will make an effort to try and drop by to see you and watch some games.
Lots of things have happened, I got married to a wonderful person, my wife Darlene has been heaven sent to me, we been
together for almost 11 years. She has heard almost all the hockey stories that involved my early days with the VNHL, The Europe
Trip, and all the unforgettable team mates and players. She really does know most of you already from what I had told her,
especially George, Shelly, and Frank. In 1990 I moved to Fontana, CA near the California Speedway but I currently live in
Apple Valley, CA. I was playing hockey at Pasadena, Burbank, Ontario, and was going to Riverside until my injury so I did
keep very active with playing hockey during all this time. I looked at the web site and was surprised to see all the pictures,
both my wife and I were speechless when we saw the Finland pictures. All I can say is "Thank You, Dan" I can't explained enough
what the call and email means. Sometimes, even on the weekends we are down in the San Fernando Valley, my brothers live in
Sherman Oaks and Canoga Park area, hopefully we can meet to catch up on old times. Please pass on my regards to Frank, Ken,
Tom, Rex and anyone else from the old league. Take Care and I look forward seeing all of you again.
Regards,
Gary Manansala
Black Wolves Win Playoffs
It was 33 years or so ago when the Wolves played their inaugural game at the Van Nuys rink. Howard
was still alive, Tommy had not yet had his umpteenth knee surgery and Coast-to-Coast Melnick still could go coast-to-coast.
There were Harry and Olly and a hottie named Carol -- and Smithlin's father was playing in 1974.
Last night, in this year's Championship Game, the Wolves fell behind in the first period, 4 - 1.
Suddenly, all the old ghosts came out of the rafters, hopped on a rusty zamboni and drove the Wolves to a stunning comeback
victory.
It was fitting that the third lupine goal was scored by Tom Courtney, now in his fourth decade as a Wolf.
Other goals were scored by Sean Fuchs (2), Marc Silverman (2), the Hat Trick Homo (1), and, we think, Danny
Romandi (1) and Sean Marin (1).
Perhaps the biggest goal of the night was the final tally -- by the most tenacious, most inspirational player
on the team -- Glenn Unger. Glenn came into the zone, reached the bottom of the circle and blasted the ninth goal of
the night past a beleaguered Judge Marcus. It put the Wolves up, 9 - 6, and cemented the Championship win.
On defense, the Playoff Sniper played for the Money all night, with an open-ice hit on their top guy and
at least three steals from the same guy. Rex Moore and Danny Romandi closed the door time after time on attempts to
break into the Wolf lair.
In net, it was the Rhyme of the Ancient Adamek as Chuck made symphonic saves early in the third period to
preserve a then-precarious lead.
To his credit, an injured Scott I.H. Spindel arrived to cheer the team on. When he got there, the
Wolves were down, 4 - 1. When he left, the Wolves had won, 9 - 7, and were hoisting the Cup.
Black Diamond Dan said he assisted on all nine goals but this could not be verified on the scoresheet.
Prior to the win, it had indeed been the winter of our discontent. The Wolves were defending Champions
in Division One at Panorama and Division Two at Burbank.
Last week at Panorama, the Third World reject goalie did not show up and the Wolves went down to a
ridiculous defeat -- out of the playoffs in the first round. On Sunday, at Burbank, the Wolves were simply outgunned
and lost in the first round of the playoffs, 11 - 8. It did not help that the Hot-Tempered Homo was tossed out in the
first period for fighting. To his credit, he was defending the honor of a Brother Wolf.
Nevertheless, at least for the Melnick League, the Wolves last night could go to the Bar, push "priority
play" on the jukebox and hear "We Are the Champions."
For today, life does not suck

Melnick League action began with one of the most bitter rivals in hockey. Yup, you got it.....The Black Wolves vs. Todd Thibodo's
Perfect Wolves. Both teams were missing some key players but that didn't take away from the intensity of the rivalry.
Dan
"Coast to Coast" Melnick started off the scoring for the Black wolves with a shot from the blue line. The next Wolves goal
was scored by Sean "The Rocket" Marin. This goal was unassisted and rightfully so. "The Rocket" took the puck and skated
past three opposing players (One was Mr. Perfect) like they were orange cones placed on the ice for drills. The speed and
stick work displayed by Sean was a thing of beauty. The end result was even nicer. Sean had two goals on the night to go along
with three assists.
Scoring
two goals and adding an assist was Tommy "The Professor" Courtney. What can you say about Tommy that hasn't already
been said? The guy is pure Magic. The game was pretty tight for the first two periods. The score was 4 to 4 going into
the third period. The Black Wolves held the high powered Perfect Wolves offense to no goals in the 2nd period. That was largely
due to the defensive play of Sean "Foggy Shield" Fuchs who had a goal and an assist along with Dan "Coast To Coast"
Melnick. Chuck "The Cement Wall" Adamek was once again at the top of his game.
As The third period began I suddenly thought that I could contribute as a defenseman. Boy was I wrong. Note to team: The next
time I try to come up with another brilliant idea like playing defense, please ignore me as if I weren't there. If I persist
with my so called brilliant idea to play Defense please beat me over the head until the idea has left me. If I lay motionless
on the ice just drag me on to the bench until I come to. I apologize for my inability to play the position correctly.
From the words of the great Robert "The Cleveland Assassin" Sheahen, "It will never happen again." The final score was Perfect
Wolves 10, Black Wolves 6.
Dave "Here come Da Judge" Marcus was incredible in net. Dave was making NHL caliber saves all night on some tough shots.
Must be those Anaheim Ducks OVERSIZED goalie pads he wears. Actually Dave made some outstanding glove saves that night.
Todd "Mr. Perfect" Thibodo backed up his comments when he said not only is he the best player in The Melnick League, but also
he's the best player in the world by scoring two goals and having 3 assists. The three assists is no misprint. Todd is usually
one who likes to do it all himself but on this night Todd did some charity work. Hey, if you guys are interested, Todd's new
book, "I'm Perfect and You're A Piece Of Shit" is at number three on the N.Y. Times Best Seller list beating out,
"The Confident Woman" by Joyce Meyers. Todd is working on is follow up novel titled, "I'm Still
Perfect and You're Still A Piece Of Shit" due out just in time for Christmas.
Other outstanding play turned in by The Perfect Wolves were Mike "Dutch Treat" Dutcher getting the HAT TRICK with two
assist. Mel "Don't Call Me Gibson" Greenberg scored two goals with one assist. Matt "The Mack Truck" Smithlin pitched in with
two goals. A special get well goes out to Doug "Tough as Nails" McNeil. Doug who was all over the ice scored a goal and
had one assist took 18 stitches to the jaw and of course Chief Martinez while playing solid defense added two assists.
It was Frank Polak Bobblehead night at the Iceland Sports Complex. The First 25 fans who were to attend the game would receive
a free Frank Polak Bobblehead and a $100 gift certificate to Home Town Buffet. An Iceland
Sports Complex spokesman said the Bobbleheads went over well with the female fans, but before the game somebody
stole all 25 Home Town Buffet gift certificates. An eye witness gave a description of the suspect she believes she saw running
from the Iceland office with the gift certificates. The suspect is roughly 5'8'' tall, balding, with glasses and wearing a
1970s Purple Satin Lakers jacket. Anybody having information on the suspect is encouraged to contact the rink so they
can call the LAPD.
Absent from the Black Wolves lineup were Rex "The Mechanic" Moore. Seems that Jeff Gordon's crew chief couldn't find out what
was wrong with Gordon's race car so they had to fly Rex out to Bristol Motor Speedway to fix the problem Rex fixed the problem
in 5 minutes. Also missing was Jumpin' Joe Schultz. Scott "The Breathalyzer" Spindel and Tommy "Mr. Vegas" Hansen. Tommy was
auditioning Strippers for his new club in Vegas. And where was Robert "The Cleveland Assassin" Sheahen???? Robert received
a Life Time Achievement award at The Teen Choice awards. Finally after all these years they've honored Robert for all
his hard work and creativity.
Gregg Gretzberg didnot play in his game because he said his back hurts. Hey Gregg, I don't think you'd have back problems
if you'd take all that inheritance money in your wallet out of your back pocket and put it in the bank.............Just a
suggestion.
Have a great week, looking foward to seeing all of you on the ice and at the bar.

Week two of
Melnick League Hockey saw The Black Wolves take on Gretzberg's Wolves. It was a great game from beginning to end. The score:
Black Wolves 5, Gretzberg's Wolves 4. The turning point in the game was when Chuck "The Cement Wall" Adamek made a save
on a slap shot from point blank range late in the 3rd period. Chuck's catlike reflexes made the tough save look routine.
Chuck was making great saves all night. Once again, Tony Esposito is smiling. The assist master of the night was Scott
"Hacksaw" Spindel. When Scott wasn't turning our opponents sticks into woodchips he was assisting on
goals scored by Tommy "Mr.Vegas" Hansen ( twice ), Dan "Coast To Coast" Melnick and myself. I guess those nine minute
shifts are beneficial...Go figure. Tommy "The Professor"Courtney also had a goal that night which was assisted by Melnick
League Hall of Famer and Hockey legend Rex "The Mechanic" Moore. If you guys ever want to learn how to play hockey, all you
have to do is watch Rex and Tommy. These two guys make it look so easy and effortless. On Defense was newly acquired Sean
"The Sandman" Fuchs. The reason we call Sean "The Sandman" is because when he hits you it's light out. Sean's defense was
pro caliber. Nobody gets around, through or over this guy. Sean's hustle and excellent positioning on Defense made it tough
for those guys to even get a shot off. Sean also added an assist on Tommy Courtney's goal. Right along side Sean
was Jumpin' Joe Schultz. Joe's hustle and tenacity made the difference in the game. If there was a loose puck Joe was on it.
If an opposing player was bearing down on Chuck, Joe ended the threat. Joe was all over the ice. At one point I thought there
were three or four of him out there. Joe had an assist on Tommy Hansen's winning Goal. As well as Joe being all over the ice,
Tommy Hansen was all over the ice as well playing Defense and forward. Tommy scored two goals that night. Tommy's second
goal was the game winner. The first one went off his facemask. Hey, they all count. Of Course we can never forget the
Defensive genius of Dangerous Dan Melnick. Dan can do it all from the blueline. He can score as he did that night
in the first period and he can frustrate his opponents as he takes the puck away from them moments before a scoring
opportunity. But it's Dan's Coast to Coast style that has us all on the edge of our seats. When Dan goes coast to coast
it looks like a 1964 International Harvester pickup truck has just lost it's brake's on a downward slope doing 90mph. But when he
puts the puck in the net, it's all worth it. Absent from the Black Wolves line up was Sean Marin and Ohio Hockey Legend
Robert "The Cleveland Assassin" Sheahen. Rumor has it Robert was tipped off that a huge shipment of Viagra has gone
unaccounted for down at the Long Beach Docks. CHP had reports of a white Porsche traveling at ungodly speeds
towards Long Beach. Having a great game for Gretzberg's Wolves was longtime Melnick league standout Matt Smithlin.
Matt's tough play in front of his own crease made it tough for us wolves to get any kind of position in front of Gregg. Talk
about crowd control.
The later game featured The Red Wolves battling it out against The American Dreams. All I heard was that
The American Dreams won 9-7. Absent from that game was Todd "Small Boat Guy" Thibodo. Todd told Dan he had to wax his
dingy. I guess we all have our priorities.
Remember
guys let's all have fun on the ice and at the bar. See you all next week.
P.S. There was a Matt Wayne sighting at Pineapple Hill after the game. All you guys take notice. Matt didn't
play but managed to show up at the bar. That's dedication and priorities. Hopefully next week Matt will play.
**** Gregg Gretzberg was exceptional in goal for his team. Gregg matched Chuck save for save.
It was a shame one team had to lose. Who am I kidding, I'm glad we beat those guys and Gretzberg. Because you know
if he beat us we'd never hear the end of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
**** Pete "The Panzer Tank" Hilke made it to the bar. I guess Dan's tough love e-mail worked.

Wednesday night was the opening night of Melnick League Hockey. It was held at the Iceland Sports Complex in Van Nuys. The
night brought back fond memories for the leagues founder Dan "Coast To Coast" Melnick. Dan was at the Iceland Sports
Complex when it first opened in 1957 when he was only 5 years old. Dan was also an employee of the rink while
in college. Dan won't admit this, but it brought a tear to his eye, or maybe he was crying when he saw Gregg
Gretzburg slither under the door into the rink. Anyway, it was a magical night. The first game was The Black Wolves vs. The
American Dreams. It was kind of rough at the beginning getting used to the small rink. We were at times a little out
of sync. But all that changed when Mr. Hockey himself strolled on to the ice. No, I'm not talking about Wayne Gretzky or Gordie
Howe. I'm talking about Robert "No Negativity" Sheahen. Just the mere presence of Mr. Sheahen is enough to get you excited
about playing hockey. After Mr. Sheahen folded up his walker an placed it to the side of the bench, he went
right to work. Mr. Sheahen was barking out orders to Scott Spindel who was just finishing up his 9 minute shift. Tommy Courtney
was out there making the opposing team whiff at the puck every time he went by them. I love watching Tom school
these young punks who think they can play hockey. Tommy Courtney is a Legend. Jumpin' Joe schulz was out there. Let's
face it folks this guy pound for pound is the toughest guy on the planet. It's always a pleasure to skate with Joe. Scoring
goals at will was Rex's friend Sean. This guy has only one speed OVERDRIVE!!!!!!!! Tommy Hansen was out there dreaming of
building the first Hockey Rink/Casino/Bar/Stripclub in Las Vegas. I like the way you think Tommy. Of Course we cannot and
willnot forget Chuck "The Cement Wall" Adamek. No Wolves Hockey Team is ever complete without Chucker in Net. Chuck made some
great saves that night. Somewhere Tony Esposito is smiling. Last but not least our leader Dan "Big Sexy" Melnick. If
it wasn't for Dan none of us would be playing hockey and having this much fun. Throughout the years Dan has brought together
the most diverse group of guys seen ANYWHERE! I started playing hockey with Dan and the guys in 1998. The friends I've made
and the wild times that I've had since playing in the Melnick League is something that will stay with me forever. Thanks Dan.
I'm not sure what the outcome of the late game was but it was great to see Sean "The Wildman" Fuchs out there. Sean almost
missed the game because he was outside wanting to fight a group kids and take their money to buy Doughnuts.
There was a Dave Glover sighting. No not at an AA meeting, or at the Budweiser Factory. Dave took time out form his busy
schedule to play hockey. Dave has been developing his own beer. He told me it's coming along fine. He's having some trouble
with the taste though. Everytime he tests a new batch it tastes like old musty hockey equipment that hasn't been washed since
1967. Dave assured me he'll keep at it until he gets it right. Out on the Ice was L.A. High School Football color commentator,
Dave "The Judge" Marcus. Have you seen this guy on T.V??? This guy is good. Monday Night Football will be calling
him soon. It's always great to have Dave on the ice either in net or skating out. Did you see the tan on Frank "The Fisher
King" Polak. Frank got that tan on his recent fishing trip with Todd "Mr. Perfect" Thibodo. Frank and Todd's new fishing
attire are Speedo bathing suits two sizes too small. ( Sorry about the visual guys) You'll never guess where the
keep their bait. Hey, who knew Pete ''The Panzer Tank'' Hilke would be out there. Pete almost didn't make. He had bizarre
accident while attending Oktoberfest. The story I heard was that Pete after 4 days of straight drinking choked on a giant
kielbasa. I guess what happens at Oktoberfest, stays at Oktoberfest.
All kidding aside, it's great to have The Melnick League
back in action. Looking foward to seeing all of you guys on the ice and at the bar.
