Subject: NO FLUKE FOR LUKE -- INTERCEPTORS NUKED

In the big battle for first place at Valencia, Lucas Milton scored an epic OT goal and the Wolves beat the
Interceptors by a final of 5 - 4.
It was also the Time of the Ancient Adamek, as Chuck not only did not stink up the building but made SIX
saves in overtime to preserve the win. For the game, the venerable keeper had 21 saves on 25 shots.
The game was not easy. Despite early lupine goals by Luke and by Sean Morin, the Interceptors
were able to take a 4 - 2 lead as the second period was about to end.
But with one second left in the second period, a woefully out-of-position Playoff Sniper fed Sean in
the slot for a one-timer which made it 4 - 3.
Then, with five minutes to go in this nailbiter, Sean blasted one home to tie the game at 4 - 4. Assists
went to Luke and Gregg Gretzburg.
The OT started with the Interceptors buzzing all around Chuck, but the Wolves took control in time for Luke
to score the Gamewinner.
Gretzburg took credit for two assists, while Reed Mokler got one. The defensive pair of Gretzburg
and the Sniper gave up no goals to the opposition.
Matt Smithlin and the Sniper each got bogus penalties. Captain Dan, Tom Hanson, Jouni Passi and
Frank Polak helped insure the lupine win.
The win would give the Wolves undisputed possession of first place except the Interceptors protested the
loss. Gretzburg has promised to make sure the league puts the Wolves officially in first place by later today.

Breaking away from a 3 - 3 tie with less than eight minutes to go, the D - 4 Wolves scored seven late goals
tonight at Valencia to dethrone the Kings by a final of 10 - 3.
While Sean Morin had four goals and Lucas Milton had four assists, the big news of the night was that the third goal
was scored by Captain Dan himself. Captain Dan went "coast to coast" and taking a page out of the Gordie Howe/Tom
Courtney playbook, reached into his '57 Chevy and from about 10 feet out deftly backhanded the puck past the beleaguered
King goalie.
The fourth lupine goal -- which turned out to be the Gamewinner -- was scored from the top of the slot
by Jouni Passi at 7:21 of the third period.
As the royal floodgates opened, Gregg Gretzburg of all people rushed the puck and deked the goalie out of his moat
with four and a half minutes left in the game.
At the three minute mark, Scott Swinedell sent a surreal shot swirling into the stratosphere of the twine.
Matt Smithlin was at the top of his game, getting the first and eighth goals for the Wolves.
Reflecting the tight well-run organization at the Valencia rink, the referees were able to see well enough
to award second assists on four of the Wolves' goals. Two of the second assists went to Gretzburg (who of course pleaded
for them). The other two went to historically unheralded Frank Polak -- who received a rousing ovation in the locker
room after the game.
In net, the occasionally-maligned Chuck Adamek was magnificent, turning away 20 of 23 shots.
One of the Kings shot at Chuck after a whistle and the Playoff Sniper tried to send the guy to the next zip code.
Before the Sniper was able to attack, Reed Mokler gently asked the guy not to do it again and the guy apologized
profusely and politely.
After the game, a large lupine contingent found its way to the Bar in beautiful downtown Santa Clarita

In an epic comeback at Valencia, the D-IV Wolves defeated the Blackhawks, 10 - 9, on Sunday, December 9.
(Your aging Scribe lost the scoresheet and apologizes for the delay in this report.)
With less than 8 minutes left in the third period, the lupine squad was trailing, 9 - 7. At
7:20, Matt Smithlin fed Reed Mokler to make it, 9 - 8.
At the 2 1/2 minute mark, Captain Dan sagely called a timeout to get a power line on the ice and Lucas Milton
responded with a goal at 2:15. Assists went to Reed and Sean Morin.
It was now 9 - 9, but victory for the Wolves was inexorable.
Sure enough, with a mere 31 seconds left in the contest, Sean fed Reed who put home the gamewinner and the
Wolves came out on top, 10 - 9.
Arguably distracted at first, Chuck Adamek was stellar in net when the money was on the table.
The other guys got 8 goals on their first 18 shots, but only one goal on their final 10 shots.
The early lupine goals went to Gregg Gretzburg (not a misprint), and more for Sean, Lucas and Reed.
Scott Spindel had two assists and Captain Dan had one.
The Wolves are in second place in Valencia, within easy reach of whoever it is that is in first place.
