BURBANK WOLVES BOUNCED FROM PLAYOFFS |
|

Ah, so
much for the dreams of a depleted roster.
There just
weren't enough players in the Wolves' Lair last night as the Division Two Playoffs opened at Burbank. Though the Wolves jumped out to a 2 - 0 lead, it turned out to be a very
long night.
The final
score was 9 - 3 in favor of the other guys.
It was
especially disheartening because the other team had been 6 - 6 on the season whereas the second place Wolves had a record
of 8 wins and 4 losses. But throughout the season, the lupine squad included Joe, Eric, Kyle and Scotty -- all of whom
are now gone to points east.
In a tribute
to Scotty, one of the guys on the other team said they knew they could win when they saw that "Number 98" would not be suiting
up. He said, "You guys were missing your quarterback."
It didn't
help that the Wolves were also missing three of the team's leading scorers.
So it was.
Everybody played hard -- especially, believe it or not, Geoff Born to Be Weil. It is possible
he is finally getting it. He gave his all every shift and stayed somewhat at home on defense.
Rookie
Brandon Krikorian showed up for the Playoffs. Brandon
actually backchecks on every shift and over time hopefully will set an example for his Brother Wolves.
Marc, Tom
Hanson, Victor, Sean and Boris all played tough hockey, while the Blue Line was manned by the Weil Wolf, the Playoff
Sniper, Coast-to-Coast and Gretzburg. It was probably a game Gretz wishes to forget so we will not be unkind.
Let us just say the puck was not bouncing our way.
Evgeni
was in net and made some great saves until the game got out of reach. He mailed in the third period, but by then it
didn't matter.
An early
Playoff exit makes us all the more appreciative of our Division Two Championship from last year.
The Wolves
thank all of their fans, including Hockey Mom Extraordinaire Joyce Silverman. The Team also hopes for a complete recovery
for Tom Courtney. |

LUPINE GOALIE TROIKA CONQUERS CRAZY EIGHTS |
|

In Spanish,
it was muy curioso, to say the least. In German, it was sehr merkwurdig. Who knows what it was in Ukrainian?
In English,
it was curious, it was bizarre and it was strange.
Three goalies
played for the Wolves last night as they beat the Crazy Eights, 11- 7, in Division Two competition at Burbank.
Evgeni
Galyuk played the first period and left the game with a 4 - 1 lead. Victor scored a natural hat trick in the first
period and Rookie Brandon Krikorian added one in the final half minute.
Why, exactly,
would Evgeni leave? Well, to the untrained eye, Eugene was inebriated. Not by Ukrainian standards, certainly, but, by the Victorian standards of Burbank, Eugene was
tipsy.
Worse yet,
Eugene was drinking beer in net. Not a joke. The
refs found him not with a water bottle but with a half full can of beer. The lupine bench exploded in laughter
but the humorless refs booted our Ukrainian brother from the game.
So the
Wolves had no goalie. Scott Sheahen, ordinarily a premier defenseman, dropped back into net for the second period.
He had no goalie gear and no goalie stick, so he just made the ultimate in defensive plays.
Marc Silverman
scored his natural hat trick in the second period and the Wolves somehow held on to a 7 - 5 lead. Scotty
even had two assists while playing "goal," and his brother Kyle had one.
For the
third period, Gregg Gretzburg played net. He had changed during the second period and came out wearing Evgeni's gear
and jersey. Whereas once he was Sieveburg, on this night he was Clutchburg. Gretz let in only two goals on
an estimated nine shots to preserve this memorable Wolves' win.
Third period
lupine goals were scored by the Weil Wolf (2), Boris (1) and another by Brandon as the game was ending. Assists for the night went to Scotty (4), Kyle (1), Marc (1), Brandon (1), Born to Be Weil (1) and even Victor (1).
Tom Hanson,
Sean and the Playoff Sniper played strong games but did not post on the scoresheet (except for two penalties for Sean).
This was
the last game of the season for Kyle and Scotty. They are both going back east for school this week. The entire Wolves' organization is grateful for their summer of tenacity and dedication.

BURBANK WOLVES ROLL, 8 - 1 |

In Division
Two play at Burbank on Sunday night, the Wolves declawed the Hawks, 8 - 1.
Rookie
Brandon Krikorian socred four goals and two assists. Marc Silverman scored two goals and four assists.
Scotty
and Sean scored the other goals. Scotty added two assists.
Gretzburg
had two assists.

is from a scoresheet; your scribe was absent from the game.) |

BURBANK WOLVES WIN, 7 - 4 |

In Division Two play at
Burbank tonight, the Wolves rolled to a relatively easy win over the other guys, 7 - 4.
We do not get scoresheets
at Burbank so the recap is mostly guesswork. Kyle Sheahen scored one goal, Marc
Silverman scored two, Victor scored at least one and Eric probably scored. (Eric's claim that he scored four goals is
physically impossible.)
Most importantly, Evgeni
Galyuk (aka Eugene) played brilliantly in net, making many NHL-quality saves.
On the opposition's fourth
goal, however, Evgeni fell apart. With a minute to go in the game, Scott Sheahen made an errant clearing pass
which bounced in front of the net and went off the Playoff Sniper into the net. Eugene was laughing too hard to make the save, and added, "the father-son team strikes again."
Captain Dan played a strong
game and was probably a plus five on the night.
Tom Hanson and Gretzburg
played well. Joe Garofalo, the Wolves' newest alternate captain, had a bundle of assists but no one kept track of how
many. Joe will be taking a leave of absence from the lupine squad in about a week or so when he takes off for Europe.

The Official

This is
Brandon's first goal as a Wolf. |

BUBANK WOLVES TOPPLE DROOGS, 7 - 5 |

Notwithstanding
the absence of stalwart defensemen Coast-to-Coast Melnick and the Playoff Sniper (both apparently hit by bouts of senility),
the Division Two Wolves downed the Droogs last night at Burbank, 7 - 5.
Eric Passi
came out of his scoring slump and netted two goals and two assists. Golden Joe Garofalo had one goal and three assists.
Newcomer Bobby Scott scored a Hat Trick for the Wolves. This means he scored three goals.
If we can
read the scoresheet correctly, venerable Tom Hanson scored an empty-netter with twelve seconds left to ice the win for
the lobos.
Scott Sheahen,
Gretzburg and Geoff Born to Be Weil played defense. Scotty and Geoff each tallied an assist.
Newly-returned
(after a five-year hiatus) Brandon Krikorian played another strong game but did not make the scoresheet. Marc Silverman
is back from his education efforts and got a penalty for slashing. While we did not see it, we are sure it was a bad
call.
Daniel
Kim did another decent job of reffing.
We do not
have the standings but the D-2 Wolves are close to first place

BURBANK WOLVES WIN, 10 - 3 |
|
Date: |
May 11, 2007 2:11 AM |
|
In a game
not as close as the 10 - 3 score would suggest, the Division Two Wolves tormented some team at Burbank tonight.
It actually
felt good for the Wolves to be back on top. Eugene the Goalie is in net again and made his usual quota of high-end saves. Pairing up on defense for the first
time were the Homeless Homo and newcomer Shane Arundel. The Homo scored at least one goal and Shane got two goals.
We do not
get scoresheets at Burbank so the rest is guesswork. Gretzburg got a couple of early
assists and Joe, Marc, Eric, Sean and the other guys played a strong game up front. Tom Hanson was breaking in
new skates and howled in pain for most of the evening.
Fans included
the Nun, Lisa and Janine and some of Eugene's entourage.
The Bar
was very cool. Even the Playoff Sniper stayed until 1:30 a.m. |

Wolves Tie, 7 - 7 |
|

The Burbank
Wolves tied tonight, 7 - 7.
Due to
a manpower shortage, the third period was a living hell. The Wolves yielded three goals in the final three minutes to
allow Team Bogus to escape with the tie.
There were
only seven skaters for the lupine squad and by the third period, they were generally gassed. Joe, Marc, Eric, Gretz,
Sean, the other guy and the Sniper played their hearts out but they just could not maintain the pace until the bitter end.
Among the
no-shows, Coast-to-Coast was unable to play due to a knee injury while some other Wolves simply could not find the
rink in the night fog. Those lost in the fog will not be mentioned by name but their initials are Geoff Weil
and Todd Thibodo |

WOLVES DRY UP OILERS, 11 - 5 |
|
Date: |

|
After an
0 - 2 start to the season, the Division One Wolves are back with a convincing 11 - 5 win tonight at Panorama over a very young
Oilers' team.
In last
week's 10 - 8 loss to the Stingers, Joltin' Joe Garofalo scored six goals. Tonight it was Electric Eric Passi who got
the double hat trick.
Marc Silverman
added two goals while Joe tallied one tonight. Playing in their first game back with the lupine squad, Rick Allen netted
one goal while Todd Bowman also scored one.
(In fairness
to Bowman, we thought he scored two goals, but the scoresheet says Eric scored the second Bowman goal.)
Playing
on a line with six-goal Eric, the Hat Trick Homo had one assist for the evening. Other assists went to Bowman (5), Marc
(2), Gretzburg (2), Rick (2), Khris Keen (2), Joe (1), Eric (1) and the Playoff Sniper (1).
In net
for the Wolves, Brian Iles played his strongest game in months, making 22 saves. Brian was generous enough to credit K.C.,
Bowman, Gretz and the Sniper for keeping the shot count relatively low.
The other
team had a lot of youth and skill, but, as we all know, old age and treachery will beat youth and skill every time |
